I am bored and at work and so... MEME!

Ganked from blueslee.

Comment on this post. I will choose seven interests from your profile and you will explain what they mean and why you are interested in them. Post this in your own journal so that others can play along.

From what I can tell, it means comment to me and then I choose some interests and then YOU post your answers. Or, at any rate, THAT'S WHAT I DID. But I think you can also comment to this and ask about more of my interests. Or something.

1. Artemis Fowl
Simply, it's a book series by Irish author Eoin Colfer, with the following: Artemis Fowl, The Arctic Incident, The Eternity Code, The Opal Deception, The Lost Colony. I think there's one more. ... I went and checked and holy christ there's a graphic novel now. Or will be. ANYWAY.

The basic plot is that Artemis Fowl, twelve-year-old genius, decides to kidnap a fairy from the LEP (Lower Elements Police) and extort the rest of them for gold. I love these books because Artemis is both protagonist and antagonist (and a right bitch), which is not common in children's books. They're also a weird combination of fantasy and techno-thriller. No, really.

2. Defenestration
Who WOULDN'T want to throw things out of windows? And also have a fancy word for doing so?

3. Groovelily
Music interest! Groovelily is a three-piece band with Valerie on electric violin, Brendan on keyboard, and Gene on drums. All three of them sing, all three are talented, and they are AWESOME. They're billed as folk music, but it's sort of... folk rock with violin. http://www.groovelily.com/index2.html

4. Jack Hart
Heh. Jack Hart's an editor of books that are usually personal memoirs of the hot gay lovin' sort.

5. The Almighty Silver Spoon
ALL HAIL THE ALMIGHTY SILVER SPOON!

>) cyrenasea would be able to answer this better than I, as it's a high school cult joke she started with her friends. I was drawn into the worship a bit late.

6. The Stranger
Seattle-based newspaper that Dan Savage edits and writes "Savage Love" for. Has a strong online presence here. They tend to be very strident, but also very funny.

7. Tormenting Carter
Who doesn't enjoy that? But I'm surprised blueslee wants it explained, as he has FIRST-HAND EXPERIENCE MUAHAHAHAHAHA.
