*mutter*

This country disgusts me.

I love my state, but right now it disgusts me too.

I'm either moving to Massachusetts or Canada. I just haven't decided which. >_

Clarification

To clarify, it's not that proposal 2 (marriage is between one man and one woman and no "similar union[s]", so goodbye EVERYTHING) got a higher percentage of the vote. I mean, 59/41 is about what I expected. I'm glad that there was 41 percent against it, especially as it's worded so vaguely and innocuously that it's not clear that it's doing anything other than 'defining' marriage.

What bothers me is that a simple majority of voters is enough to amend a fucking STATE CONSTITUTION. That's RIDICULOUS. It should take at LEAST a 2/3 majority! It's just not right that slightly over half the people in a state can just up and change their CONSTITUTION, when the other part doesn't want to. There's a reason it's so hard to amend the federal constitution! WHY doesn't that apply to Michigan's State constitution? WHY is it easier to amend the damn thing than pass a SIMPLE LAW doing the same thing?

And THAT is the source of my disgust. Even with a majority, this - both amendments - should NOT have passed.

Life sucks, but at least you can laugh at the monkey

On the lighter side of things (as it is not my nature to dwell too long without finding humor in *something*), here is something I forgot to post last night.

I've probably mentioned that my parents don't technically know that I'm more or less a lesbian. I once sort of tried to tell my dad that I was bisexual, a few years ago. Collapse )

Faced with the fact that they wouldn't believe me (it must have been all those boyfriends and drooling over guys...hmm) and my mother once saying she'd be "disappointed" if I turned out to be a lesbian, I decided to drop it until I was financially solvent.

But then my brother's drama with Nidhi began. (It turns out she's technically engaged to some guy in India, so Rob is attempting to marry her first, resulting in a whole lot of Drama.) Collapse )

He proceeded to talk about various other crap in a completely normal tone of voice. No shock. Nothing but, "I knew that," with the implication of, "And it's fine."

My parents are SO freakin' cool.
